Turn into The Oval@Seletar Aerospace Park and you enter an idyllic commune dotted with colonial bungalows that have been turned into restaurants. One such is Wheeler’s Estate. Al Fresco Cafe by the Lawn sits on the ground floor, and up a short flight of steps is modern European restaurant, The Verandah.

The upper floor is romantic, especially at the indoor verandah. While the main dining room can get noisy when indoor live music plays, the atmosphere remains convivial. Here, tuck into burratina di Parma ham, a melt-in-yourmouth burratina from Puglia, topped with pesto, then follow that up with the Mediterranean mussel and clam broth, a light and warming soup of venus clams and green mussels. Among pastas, the spaghetti vongole or the linguine lobster pasta featuring a halved lobster and herbs such as basil and mint are good light options. But for bigger appetites, order up a meat platter. The Cape Byron tomahawk comes in a hulking portion, paired with asparagus and shaved parmesan, and highly addictive buffalo junior fries. To end, the duo profiteroles are great washed down with an espresso. A wide selection of wines are available too.
