The Spot’s unassuming glass exterior belies its stylish New York vibe, with jazzy tunes, centrestage bar and classy beverages. Here, seemingly ordinary dishes are innovatively and deliciously elevated, such as the surprisingly complex roasted carrot soup enhanced with herbs, prawn and crunchy bacon and a light risotto exquisitely cooked in soy brown butter. The glazed duck breast is aromatic with chrysanthemum and a mousse-like sweet potato mash, while the skate, with an addictive coriander broth, is an elevated version of grandma’s comforting porridge. For dessert, the zesty sea coconut brulée is lovely, while the chocolate tart is something you won’t want to share.
