2018 Review
Located in a colonial-era bungalow along Scotts Road, Song of India offers a gorgeous setting, with grand crystal chandeliers, intricate crown mouldings and an impressive art collection. The draw, however, is the extensive menu that spans the food of North and South India. Highlights include the fork-tender Keralan-spiced lamb shanks, the succulent lamb chops cooked Kashmiri Wazwan-style, and the cod tikka marinated with mustard oil, coriander and tamarindall judiciously cooked and presented with flair by chef Manjunath Mural.
The kebabs are also a delight, with well-balanced flavours that are not overwhelmed by spice. Order the kebab tasting platter comprising lamb, chicken and prawns, which allows you to sample a good range of dishes at a go. The flambé leg of lamb will not disappoint eitherthe meat is slow-cooked before it is flambéed and comes served with a robust Afghani spiced sauce.
Vegetarians have plenty of options including classics like palak paneer (spinach and cottage cheese) and unusual creations like harra subz (spinach, edamame and asparagus cooked with organic herbs and spices). If you cant decide what to order, go for one of chefs tasting menusthe six-course degustation offers innovative dishes such as the lemon chilly lobster in Kerala moily sauce, and the pan-seared spiced foie gras with mixed salad and mango coriander chutney.
