2018 Review
This gorgeous restaurant dressed in turquoise, cream and tangerine is located in what was once the island’s landing point for visitors entering Singapore by sea. Accordingly, the restaurant takes its name from this historic site, and comes complete with expansive glass windows that offer a fine vantage of the waters beyond. Now part of the Fullerton Bay Hotel, Clifford Pier serves a mix of Singaporean and international dishes, with a choice of a la carte menu or a buffet. In the evenings, live music sets the tone for a relaxing, romantic experience.
The heritage bites platter is a great way for diners to sample quintessential Singaporean dishes in one sitting. It includes tender soy-braised pork belly buns, kueh pie tee aka stewed jicama and vegetables in crisp rice flour cups, and grilled satay that yields to the bite. These dishes get an elegant, decadent spin with top-quality ingredients and expert technique. The wagyu beef rendang is another excellent choice. Served with pickled vegetables and rice, the tender meat is suffused with complex, spicy flavours, and redolent of coconut, blue ginger, garlic and chillies.
For those who prefer Western options, the menu also holds offerings such as a fantastic lobster roll comprising chunks of the butter-poached shellfish slicked with mayonnaise and chives and served on a soft, crusty bread roll. Alternatively go for a good old-fashioned New York steak with truffle fries, or linguine tossed with clams in white wine. The restaurant also purveys a late-night dim sum buffet on Wednesdays, and a popular Heritage Afternoon Tea on Mondays to Fridays.
