Located off the bustling Bugis area, The Beast Southern Kitchen + Bourbon Bar serves good old Southern classics in hearty portions. Much like the food it serves, its decor is warmly comforting—think rustic wooden barrels, wellworn countertops and bar stools, and a cosy al fresco area perfect for a casual night out with friends over good food and drinks.

To start, try the freshly baked cornbread with a dash of house-made cranberry sauce for the table, and the smoked tomato soup with pimento grilled cheese sandwiches. Be sure to order the blackened pork collar with roasted yukon potatoes, bacon, thyme and garlic cream. The grilled bonein swordfish collar on a bed of sweet potato mash and salsa, then drizzled with house-made lemon butter sauce is also worth an order.

Of course, no visit to the South would be complete without the iconic Southern fried chicken with slaw and gravy. The version here is pretty good.
