2018 Review
Its flagship restaurant has drawn diners to Chijmes for more than 20 years, so it is no surprise that Tatsu’s second outlet at Asia Square took off almost as soon as it opened. Both restaurants feature sushi and teppanyaki bars where diners can watch chefs execute their craft with impressive professionalism.
Tatsu imports fish and fruit from Japan four times a week so diners are assured of absolute freshness. Hirame (flounder) is sliced paper-thin and paired deliciously with truffle oil and caviar. Charcoal-grilled mackerel is grilled to perfection, moist within and needing nothing more than a squeeze of lemon juice to bring out all its natural flavours. The aburi sushi set sees five morsels of sushi topped with a slice of lightly torched fish. They are all scrumptious, especially the sweet amaebi prawn topped with a generous dollop of sea urchin. At dinner, the teppanyaki counter dishes out some fantastic items, including wagyu beef, wagyu ox tongue, lobster and crayfish. The Tatsu dinner teppanyaki course offers great value for money with salad, king prawn, salmon, beef or chicken, assorted vegetables, garlic fried rice, miso soup and dessert. If ordering a la carte, don’t miss out on the oxtongue fried rice, a speciality here.
At lunch, there are well-priced bento boxes for those who want something good and quick. The service is attentive but not intrusive.
