    2018 Review

Polished leather booth seats and bistro tables illuminated by warm lighting. Classic French food and wine served by well-dressed service staff. This slice of Paris on Keong Saik Road delivers a quintessentially French bistro experience with great service and no pretences.

A place like this calls for a meal to start with baked escargot gently bathed in melted garlic butter. Escargot aside, be sure to devour all that tasty butter by mopping it up with hunks of warm bread. Another signature is the foie gras, which is served on an apple tart with trufflesauce. The slivers of tart apple cut through the richness of the liver wonderfully, while the light, crisp pastry offers textural contrast with every bite.

Be sure to order the boeuf bourguinon that is studded with pearl onions, mushrooms and carrots, and braised till the meat is spoon-tender. The silky pomme puree that accompanies it is perfumed with truffle oil, imbuing this classic favourite with an added dimension. Or try the grilled slab of cod paired with a light tangy and very moreish tomato sauce. Its skin is crisp and friable, its flesh meltingly unctuous.

At dessert, the pear tart with pistachio ice cream does not disappoint. Each element balances out the other admirably, so that there are varying textures and levels of sweetness, making for a fine way to end the meal.
