sQue Rotisserie & Alehouse @ The Central

From sharing platters and hearty mains like ribs and steak to more casual options like pizzas and burgers, sQue Rotisserie offers a wide range of Western staples in generous portions and at reasonable prices. Its perch at The Central along the Singapore River, offers guests the chance to dine al fresco by the river and catch the water taxis glide by. (It has another outlet at Mapletree Business City.)Starters range from prawns on ice and clams mariniere—here prepared with Chinese wine and Pacific clams—to an excellent salad topped with creamy avocado and fresh crunchy prawns. For mains, buckle down to the house favourite pork knuckle, served with a special Asian dip that cuts through the richness of the meat, or opt for the classic steak and frites starring a hunky 250g aged ribeye.

Those eschewing meat might consider the mushroom and garlic pizza, which comes with a thin, crisp crust juxtaposed against earthy, succulent mushrooms perfumed with truffle oil. There is also a selection of pastas on offer, such as prawn aglio olio showered with garlic and spiked with chilli. Chase those flavours with the classic chocolate fondant cake that is worth its 15-minute wait. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it is hot, cold, gooey and all-around scrumptious. While there are plenty of tipples on offer, what is worth a gander is the refreshing sQue passion, a lovely concoction of passion fruit puree, sparkling water and lemongrass syrup. On a sweltering day, this totally hits the spot.
