2018 Review
A homely interior characterised by warm lighting and shades of brown make for a comfortable setting at Spice Brasserie. Sumptuous booth tables are perfect for those seeking privacy while the main dining room’s spacious layout accommodates large groups easily. The restaurant’s mainstay is its crab and lobster dinner buffet, available from Thursdays to Sundays, and featuring a smorgasbord of dishes made with these popular crustaceans. A variety of seafood on ice, including prawns and mussels, is also available along with a sashimi counter. While not extensive, the sushi selection delivers excellent quality, with the aburi salmon nigiri worth a special mention. The clear favorites here are without doubt the freshly prepared lobster and crab dishes, such as grilled mentaiko lobster and pumpkin crab. The grilled lobster is served swathed with a generous layer of mentaiko (spicy cod roe) sauce which adds much richness to the tender flesh. Crab simmered in pumpkin sauce is equally delectable—the pumpkin purée adds a touch of creamy sweetness to the crab, resulting in a well-balanced dish.
For something lighter but just as gratifying, try the Hong Kong-style steamed lobster with light soy sauce to enhance the lobster’s natural flavour. Other dishes that will satisfy a lobster craving affordably include a good range of appetisers such as a bacon-studded lobster potato salad and buttery lobster rolls, and mains like lobster porridge and lobster pork rib noodle soup.
Crab lovers will make light work of generous portions of chilli or black pepper crab. There is even a make-your-own Thai baby crab salad bar. All in all, the food here is fresh, well-executed and worthy of repeat visits.
