This cosy and unpretentious izakaya along Robertson Quayhas been around for 15 years and continues to attract crowds with its consistently good sumiyaki (charcoal grilled) dishes and wide selection of sake.

Don’t be overwhelmed by the extensive menu featuring over 70 items. Start with some fresh sashimi like the swordfish belly, boasting sweet flavours and a nice firm texture, before moving on to the cold and hot appetisers.

Signature items like the pidan tofu served with century egg sauce, the dried puffer fish, oyster omelette and beef carpaccio offer a wealth of flavours and textures. Wash them down with sake or Asahi beer before working your way through the delicious flamed items. Must-tries include the oysters with sweet miso sauce, featuring plump fresh bivalves blanketed in a delicious sauce; ebi shio, succulent king prawn seasoned with salt and butter; and the signature chicken wings with taut, thin skin that yields a snap upon first bite and unveils juicy, succulent flesh.

Other notable highlights include the scallop rolled with pork and the Japanese mackerel with plum. If you love organ meats, you’ll want to try the ox tongue, foie gras, chicken heart and chicken gizzard, which are all grilled to perfect doneness. All skewers come in pair, which make it great for sharing.
