For authentic Taiwanese fare in Singapore, leg it over to Shin Yeh. During lunch, it serves a selection of dim sum such as pan-fried turnip cake served with X.O. sauce, steamed chive dumplings with shrimp, and egg tarts, all of which are highly recommended.
Perennial favourites from the a la carte menu include braised chicken with garlic and basil leaves, and rice with soy sauce-braised lean pork. For anourishing option, go for the braised prawn, scallop, and fish maw served in a claypot. Generous chunks of collagen-rich sea cucumber and broccoli add to the wholesome goodness of this dish.
Dessert lovers will be heartened to find a tantalising array of sweet treats, ranging from Taiwanese shaved ice to traditional Chinese pastries. The humble muah chee, or sticky chewy rice cakes coated with ground peanuts, is a delicious choice. For something more delicate, order the double-boiled hashima with almond cream and egg white.
