Located along Stanley Street, Restaurant Gaig is a cosy Catalan eatery run by Nuria Gibert, daughter of Carles Gaig who owns the one-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gaig in Barcelona. The interior is simple but elegant, with touches of Spain such as textured white walls decorated with ornamental plates. Helming the kitchen is Marti Carlos, former sous chef of La Ventana, who serves up authentic Spanish food here.
To start, dishes like the patatas bravas and cannelloni area must-try. The former comprises nuggets of perfectly fried potatoes that are incredibly addictive, while the latter is a dish made from a family recipe dating back to 1869, and consists of slim cigar-shaped pasta shells filled with a delicious blend of roasted pork and beef, and covered in a rich cream sauce.
For mains, dont miss the squid ink seafood fideuà, an umami-laden dish featuring roasted noodles cooked with fish stock in a hot cast iron pan, and topped with fresh clams, shrimp and creamy aioli. We love how the noodles have a nice crispy texture at the edges, and the rich flavours offered by the seafood. If you prefer meat, go for the suckling pig ravioli with truffle sauce. The suckling pig is cooked in the oven for five hours to give generous shreds of tender pork and crispy skin. Encased within a thin and delicate layer of pasta, it is served in a truffle cream sauce and makes for a satisfying indulgence.
