2018 Review
Praelum may appear to be a simple wine bar at first glance. But its bare floors and utilitarian wood furniture belie a cosy, vinous little gem that draws you in with friendly service and unabashed enthusiasm for the wines of the world. A beguiling wine list distinguishes it, while a focused food menu rounds up its offerings as a full-service restaurant.
A definite highlight is its menu of thoughtfully themed and delectably priced wine flights such as The Unicorn, a flight of three unusual reds from South Africa, China, Syria, picked by the sommelier.
The food here is good too. Must-haves include sharing plates of tarte flambe of mushrooms, Gruyere and onions; and the baked brie sporting a topping of nuts, roast garlic and served with crisp warm bread. For mains, go for the chicken with chipotle rub and mango relish; and salmon en croute with its crisp pastry, moist, tender salmon and distinct dill accompaniment. End on a light note with key lime pie.
