Started by Singapore’s doyenne of Peranakan food, National Kitchen is stunning, and does justice to its hallowed location in the National Gallery Singapore. Friendly service and dramatic art deco interiors set the tone for a memorable meal there. The menu is concise, featuring mainly Nyonya favourites. Have the excellent kueh pie tee, crisp ngoh hiang plump with juicy, sweet crab and prawn filling within, and cod cooked just right and served with a fragrant laksa sauce. The beef rendang was wickedly tender in rich spicysweet gravy, and chicken buah keluak was deliciously tangy. End with the simply divine kueh beng kah.
