My Little Tapas Bar

Launched in March 2014 as the sister outlet to My Little Spanish Place, My Little Tapas Bar recently moved to its new location on Ann Siang Road from its nearby Club Street location. Once again, chef-partners Maria Sevillano and Edward Esmero have parlayed their ‘meson’ concept to warm Spanish touches in the restaurant, home-style tapas creations, a hearty selection of aged jamónes, cured meat platters and a comprehensive Spanish wine selection. And while not quintessentially Spanish, the restaurant’s gin and tonic concoctions are definitely worthtrying—the honey lemon version with Hendrick’s or strawberry and basil with Mascaro 9 are particularly good.

Start with the Andalusian-style deep-fried calamari, which is served in a quaint brown paper bag to absorb any excess grease, leaving you to enjoy the lightly battered squid that’s laced with a delicious garlic cream sauce. Other popular house favourites from the tapas selection include the coca de provadura, a thin, crisp flatbread topped with fresh chorizo provadura, caramelised onions, pine nuts and manchego cheese; and the crunchy ham-stuffed croquettes with creamy centres.

For a hearty main, get the pan-seared ribeye entrecote, which comes with red chimichurri instead of the usual green version, and soul-satisfying thick-cut fries. Alternatively, order the mouth-watering sous vide suckling pig served with truffle mash. Leave enough room for the generously portioned desserts such as the traditional tarte de Santiago, which sees a large slice of moist dark chocolate cake topped with an equally large portion of Spanish almond cake, and served with mango purée and vanilla sauce. Another winningchoice is the three-layered chocolate (dark, white and milk) mousse served with milk and egg white ice cream.
