Peranakan offerings are spectacular—the robust Nonya laksa, rich with coconut milk and spices, is a crowd pleaser and worth repeated helpings; the jicama and bamboo shoot filling for kueh pie tee is delightfully savoury, and a wonderfully toothsome contrast to the crispy fried shells.
