2018 Review
Neatly tucked along a stretch of trendy restaurants at China Square (they have another outlet at Chevron House), Koji Sushi Bar is fast becoming the go-to place for casual and affordable Japanese dining.
Huddle alongside other patrons at Kojiâs cosy bar counter and savour popular lunchtime favourites such as mixed-grain chirashi bowls and sushi platters. For dinner, the omakase is highly recommended and offers great value for money. It might start with miso-infused tofu topped with uni, fish roe and freshwater lily bulbs, followed by a side of succulent baby squid and creamy fish milt. Up next, dig into sublime curls of sashimi that include tuna belly, prawns, yellowtail and swordfish. There may also be simple yet mouth-watering seafood miso soup, as well as marbled wagyu beef cubes garnished with air-dried garlic chips that melt in the mouth.
The highlight of the omakase is the sushi course comprising morsels of rice topped with raw and torched fish served one piece at a time.
Finish the meat with fresh sweet Japanese rock melon and strawberry, air-flown from Japan. For the astute sake drinker, Koji has a well-curated range of quality sake and shochu that come listed with their gravity score.
