2017 Review
2018 Review

Edit, 14 Aug 2017: IZY Dining + Bar has since changed its concept to a pop culture modern izakaya serving Japanese fare. For more information, visit their website.

The street art mural that dominates one wall at IZY Dining + Bar encapsulates the mood here perfectly. Casual, a little edgy but unpretentious, this American-Japanese izakaya in Club Street is a cosy, welcoming place for after-work downtime. The menu is focused and concise. Food is meant to be shared, and is designed to pair with lots of sake.

The Japanese nokke roll is a must-try. Nokke means ‘to put something on’; accordingly, the sushi roll wrapped with vegetables is served crowned with uni, ikura, crab and negitoro. The swordfish is a juicy steak cooked nicely pink and tender, and topped unconventionally with parmesan and seaweed sauces. But this is an ‘American-Japanese’ eatery, so purists be warned. Other good dishes include the wagyu truffle don; the IZY roll filled with tempura shrimp and avocado, mayo, tobiko and asparagus; and juicy delicate cigars of belly pork rolled with sweet ginger and sancho pepper. Service is good, and if you are nice and friendly, they may just offer you a few extra treats. After dinner, head to the back of the restaurant, where a hidden bar is camouflaged behind a wall. CACHÉ Bar offers a totally different, more sophisticated mood. Boozy, nicely balanced cocktails, wines and sake are served. The bartending style is Japanese along with the incongruous J-pop blaring in the background.
