iO Italian Osteria

If the mark of a true Italian osteria its ability to deliver a taste of Italian history and heritage through food and wine, then this restaurant has fulfilled its mission admirably. This busy, convivial osteria headed by chef Anna Borrasi is the go-to place for a slice of Italian tradition infused with that inimitable Italian energy and attitude.

Aside from daily specials, the menu purveys handmade breads, pizzas, pastas, meats and an incredible array of cheese and desserts. And while there is no shortage of good wine, the house pours served directly from draft barrels in carafes replicate that authentic osteria experience.

Order without hesitation and expect the food to be served ongorgeous plates each time. Start the meal with a small homemade margherita pizza, then go for the rich porchetta, baked pork belly stuffed with wild fennel and lined with wonderfully crisp crackling. Another house favourite is the orecchiette with pork sausage that sits in a saffronflavouredcream sauce. Equally filling and delicious is the handmaderaviolacci, where delicate pasta parcels of shredded and minced beef are enrobed in a tantalisingly creamy marsala sauce. Alternatively, try the signature spicy roasted farm chicken ‘alla diavolo’ served with grilled vegetables.

If you’re in the mood for seafood, the mixed grilled fish and seafood platter is a must. Swap traditional espresso-infused tiramisu for the nuttier pistachio rendition on the menu. And while the selection of homemade cakes and pies are as good as they look, the warm dark chocolate lava cake with espresso ice cream makes for a delicious end to a delightful meal.
