Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao / Jiangnan

Part of the acclaimed Crystal Jade brand, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao showcases dishes inspired by China’s Jiangnan region, which encompasses cities like Wuxi, Shaoxing and Shanghai. The area is famed for its skillfully crafted snacks and delicacies, many of which can be found on the menu here.

Whet your appetite with Wuxi-style deep-fried whitebait or the very moreish deep-fried fish skin coated with salted egg. Don’t underrate these small plates that kick start the meal as they pack a wallop of flavour. Another must-try is the colourful assortment of xiao long bao, dainty steamed dumplings brimming with aromatic broth and various fillings. Apart from the original pork xiao long bao, there are myriad other options available, including salted egg yolk, chilli crab and mushroom.

The handmade Szechuan la mian (pulled noodles) is a signature here. Try the chilled la mian with spicy chicken, preserved egg and cucumber—the bright, fiery flavours will surprise and delight. Other main dishes that impress include the sautéed egg white with fish and conpoy, and the deep-fried diced chicken with dried chillies.

This being a Crystal Jade restaurant, there is a compendium of dependable standards like fried rice and noodles, and of course, dim sum. End the meal on a refreshing note with the honey aloe vera with osmanthus, or for traditional favourites such as red bean paste pancake.
