This modern Asian restaurant-café serving up heartily familiar local flavours is ensconced along the back streets of Little India. While the restaurant is open through the afternoon, the space is best enjoyed during dinner. CreatureS epitomises rustic chic; think copper accents, warm wooden trimmings and varying textures of blue and grey that are best appreciated in the evening dusk.
Food-wise, executive chef Chong Kok Keong serves up modern Singaporean dishes with strong Straits Chinese influences. Take, for example, Ah Gong Fried Chicken & Ah Ma Noodles, a combination of garam masala crispy fried chicken with chinchalok mayonnaise dipping sauce, and la mien noodles tossed in light soy sauce and fried shallots.
Other hits well worth a savour: Urban Baba babi pongteh, a reinterpretation of the Peranakan classic that features slow-cooked pork belly in fermented bean sauce and assam gravy; and Roast Duck & Pear, a salad with slices of Chinese-style roasted duck, keropok crackers and plum sauce dressing.
Those with a sweet tooth should certainly leave some space for a slice of the signature durian cake, comprising fluffy layers of pandan genoise sponge cake flavoured with pandan-vanilla Chantilly cream and aromatic Mao Shan Wang durian paste.
