2018 Review
By far one of the most beautiful and atmospheric restaurants in town, The Clifford Pier was once the landing point for anyone arriving in Singapore by sea. Today, the restaurant retains the historic architecture of the pier, with its grand arches and high ceilings, and offers a charming view of the waters and the Marina Bay area from its floor-to-ceiling windows.
This provides a lovely setting for a meal of poshed-up Singaporean classics and Western fare, including the likes of wagyu beef cheek rendang, kong bak pau (soy-braised pork belly served between steamed buns), and buttery lobster rolls. Try the platter of Heritage Bites, which include the likes of Nonya kueh pie tee (fried top hat-shaped cups filled with fermented soybean-braised jicama) and aromatic grilled satay. The best offerings can be found on the dessert menu, with ice cream in flavours such as kopi, pandan and teh tarik (pulled tea).
Come in the evenings and your meal is accompanied by a pianist-and-singer duo who croon jazzy numbers. The Clifford Piers Heritage Afternoon Tea is also popularit features a spread of classic Singapore teatime treats including roti jala, or turmeric and coconut lace pancakes with chicken curry; bak kwa jam sandwiches; and buttery scones with pineapple jam.
