Chatterbox is a veritable institution, having made its name dishing out one of Singapore’s most iconic dishes—Hainanese chicken rice. Its signature Mandarin Chicken Rice comprises fragrant steamed jasmine rice, spoon-tender poached chicken and a punchy tangy homemade chilli sauce. For many Singaporeans, the chilli sauce that accompanies chicken rice is integral to the dish, and the version here does not disappoint. It isn’t too spicy and has plenty of zing.

One of the menu’s hidden gems is the Chatterbox lobster laksa. Filled to the brim with ingredients like Boston lobster, sliced fish cake, beancurd puffs and quail eggs, this hearty bowl is anchored by a spicy, flavourful coconut-based broth. Temper the spice with coconut ice cream served in a coconut shell. It is topped with grated coconut, walnuts and lychee that all make for a hearty, refreshing dessert.
