Bar-Roque Grill exudes classy elegance amid cosy dining. Dishes here are meat focused and delectable, inspired by chef Stephane Istel’s (formerly from db Bistro Moderne) native France and his travels. Starters are imaginatively considered—for instance, Hokkaido scallop carpaccio with radish and scallions are juxtaposed against mango and avocado, giving a lovely, even acidity. As a grill house, prime cuts are their focus. The beef wellington with foie gras, mushroom duxelles and spinach encased in golden puff pastry is superb. Alternatively, the salt-grilled whole sea bass bursts with flavour, enticing with deliciously charred skin and moist flesh, countered by citrus salad.
