From the grey donkey greeting diners at the entrance to the azure and white striped shades on the terrace, BAKALAKI Greek Taverna delivers an authentic Greek experience. Their uncomplicated menu offers a wide choice of mezze-style appetisers (mezedes), home-style baked dishes, grilled meats and seafood. Share a platter of mezedes for maximum variety. Classic dips like eggplant spread and hummus are perfectly executed—the hummus is smooth and rich, the aubergines smoky and flavourful. Santorini fava beans with capers provide a nice umami balance. Polish them off with fresh pita that’s somewhat fluffy on the inside.

The mains stand out with succulent grilled meats and seafood. The marinated lamb chops are a favourite while grilled octopus, comprising two chunky tentacles, come perfectly charred, juicy and chewy and refreshed by a hint of lemon.

The wine menu here focuses solely on Greek wines—from Macedonia to the Peloponnese, Santorini and Crete. Choose from the wine display on the far wall, and discover varietals like Agioritiko or Kotsifali. Bakalaki also stocks some bottles of Kormilitsa Gold Collection, produced by the monks of the Holy Mount Athos. A retail corner offers some Greek produce as well.
