Atmastel sits among a polished row of restaurants in South Beach Avenue with a pretty interior dotted with romantic hanging bouquets and decidedly modern slate floors. The kitchen serves up Italian fare made with imported ingredients the likes of San Marzano tomatoes, Parma prosciutto and fresh burrata from Puglia.
Start with the calamari and zucchini fritters, which hit the spot. Think shredded zucchini in crisp batter and golden tender calamari accompanied by tangy green tomato mustard and homemade mayonnaise on the side. Atmastel serves wonderful pizza and pastas, too, including an umami-packed squid ink seafood pasta. The agnello allo scottadito (grilled marinated lamb rack) and zuppa de pesce (seafood stew) are show stoppersâthe rack is marinated with Negroamaro red wine sauce and a drizzle of Madagascar cocoa bean sauce, while the delicious Mediterranean broth is filled with market-fresh seafood.
Desserts are well thought-out and do not disappoint. The classic tiramisu is given a contemporary touch with a layer of sponge fingers spread with mascarpone cheese, chocolate “soil” and espresso blocks. Likewise, the panna cotta with mixed berries makes for a satisfying end to a memorable experience.
