Located adjacent to the foyer of Singapore’s historic Capitol theatre, Angelina is the perfect pre-theatre stop. Save for the muted frescos on the wall, its decor mimics the original Angelina tearoom on Rue de Rivoli in Paris, which was founded in 1903. Synonymous with pastries par excellence and African hot chocolate, Angelina also has a few savoury surprises to offer. The pot-au-feu, a quintessentially French family dinner of stewed root vegetables and meat, is particularly noteworthy. The beef is fork-tender and thestewing liquor full-bodied. The seafood risotto, meanwhile, is cooked in a piquant bouillabaisse, topped with generous lashings of seafood and provolone cheese, and served perfectly al dente. But the key attraction here has to be its stunning range of pastries and cakes. Top on the list of must-tries is its signature mont blanc, alongside classics such as citron tart and opera cake.
