If there is one good reason to head over to Clarke Quay for dinner, Violet Oon Satay Bar & Grill is it. This dinner-only venue serves up some of the best Peranakan food in town.
As in its sister restaurant at the National Gallery, Violet Oon signatures such as dry laksa, beef rendang and kueh pie tee are sound bets. But the speciality at this Clarke Quay outpost is sataymarinated meats (or seafood) that are skewered, then grilled over charcoal fire. Apart from the excellent chicken satay, there are also beef and prawn options, along with beef tripe and Hainan style pork satays, both hard-to-find gems.
