This modern-Japanese restaurant has proven its staying power by serving East-meets-West sushi to cocktail-loving corporate types since Customs House opened in 2011. Indeed, it has kept its regulars returning with quality, creative eastern-accented cocktails and that spectacular bayfront view, especially irresistibly during sunset at its rooftop bar.
Its food menu will not disappoint if you want a break from run-of-the-mill Japanese food. Alongside traditional Japanese staples are new-fangled creations that take inspiration from the West. Highly recommended are their aburi sushi selection, especially the tai aburi, seared seabream dressed with fried leek and tosazu vinaigrette. Other winning choices: the pan-seared foie gras and Hokkaido scallop sushi with its delicious play and contrast of flavours from land and sea; and the avocado maki with its glorious hit of spice.
For a casual lunch grab, try the wagyu foie gras donburi, a classic albeit very tasty Kinki version; or the fashionably healthy apple wasabi yellowtail poke bowl. The restaurant doesnt describe itself as Japanese with an urban attitude for nothing.
*Good to note: Kinki runs a Bottomless Brunch promotionon Saturdays between 12pm to 3pm. Expect an indulgent buffet spread of selected sashimi and sushi alongside mains such as kurobuta katsu and wagyu foie gras donburi.
