This small, homely restaurant located just within the city limits at Cantonment Road is a surprising find. Hailing from the seaport town of Porto Santo Stefano in Tuscany, chef Simone dedicates his food and trattoria to his beloved grandmother Lina, and he does so with much pride and love.
There is an extensive menu of starters, mains and pastas to choose from, but zoom in on the Tuscan specialities. Their zuppetta Argentarina of mussels and prawns in a creamy porcini sauce is divine; so too the cacciucco, slow-cooked seafood in a thick homemade tomato broth. Both dishes are rich and flavourful, their sauces abundant with fresh ingredients and lots of love. Another hit is the pasta with squid ragout, a dish rarely found outside of Tuscany, which is very delicious.
The list of desserts is just as extensive. The classic tiramisu will not disappoint. If you have stomach space, also order the chocolate and rum pudding with caramel sauce, which is indulgent yet not overly rich.
*Good to note: Come at lunch for a great value mealthe three-course set menus, which change monthly, go for $45.
