2017 Review

Helmed by chef-partners Maria Sevillano and Edward Esmero, My Little Spanish Place at Bukit Timah and Boat Quay are the go-to spots for lovers of hearty, authentic Spanish cuisine.

Diners can look forward to an extensive menu that features tapas, a fine selection of jamon and other hearty house specials. Start with the sharing plates featuring coca de anchoas y pimientos, which loosely translates into crispy flat coca bread with anchovies, roasted peppers, caramelised onions, manchego cheese and generous toppings of arugula. If anchovies are too strong for you, choose the version with chorizo instead, which will prove equally moreish.

The esparragos a la plancha, or grilled asparagus with crispy Serrano ham and manchego cheese, is beautifully plated and hits all the right notes. Other sound choices for the picking: the homemade pork sliders, which are moist and tender, and comes paired with a lovely romesco sauce. From the mains menu, the chef’s signature is the smooth and decadently fatty secreto Iberico, the secret butcher’s cut from acorn-fattened pigs, marinated with thyme and garlic, smoked with apple wood, and served with crispy shaved potatoes. It is large enough to be shared by two people, but you may well want it all for yourself. Or you can go for the whole hog with the Iberico baby pig slow-roasted in white wine and garlic, and uber crispy skin, a speciality of Central Spain. End the meal on a high sweet note with churros con chocolate, crispy churros dredged in cinnamon sugar and served with vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate and caramel. Tip: You will not be wanting to share that for sure.
