Tucked away in bucolic Duxton Hill, Latteria Mozzarella Bar offers al fresco seating for cool evenings and a cosy indoor dining room for when the weather gets too warm. The service staff here are friendly and provide great recommendations. As its name suggests, Latteria boasts a selection of mozzarella cheeses including creamy burratina served with pumpkin and truffle. Though it is a simple dish, it is put together with obvious care, with each ingredient complementing the other wonderfully. Other specialities for the cheese fiend: smoked buffalo milk mozzarella with porcini, stracciatella (cow milk mozzarella) with bottarga and roasted zucchini, and burrata from Puglia with sweet peppers.
Some mains well worth trying include the linguine vongole and porcini, which comes with a generous topping of fresh clams and earthy porcini mushrooms that are an unexpected yet delicious pairing. The slow-roasted lamb shank with chickpeas and red wine casserole isalso splendid—the lamb is braised for eight to 10 hours, rendering it incredibly tender, while the casserole adds sweetness and texture to the dish.
Top off the meal with a raspberry and pistachio meringue cake, which melds the tanginess of fresh raspberries with the lush cream and sweet, sometimes crisp meringue. The pistachios give this dish the delicate crunch that it needs. Or go for the lemon pannacotta with balsamic strawberries.
The food served is not only delicious, the servings are generous, too, which means you get excellent value for money. Come in a big group so you can order more dishes to share.
