Singapore's Top Restaurants

Makan@Jen

Located in the heart of Orchard Road, Makan@Jen serves a scrumptiousbuffet spread of local delights and Western dishes.

Savour buttery, crisp prata, complemented by a side of curried dhal, or indulge in a never-ending parade of chilli crabs served with golden fried buns. Then hotfoot it to the noodles station for dumpling soup noodles, before grazing at the chilled and seafood section, where you’ll find fresh oysters and prawns, lobsters, crab legs and clams, alongside a small selection of sushi and sashimi for a quick Japanese fix. There is also grilled seafood on offer, alongside seafood paella and Catalan-style crayfish fideua.

Other Western offerings include the likes of roasted chicken and beef, complete with accompaniments, soups such as clam chowder, a salad bar brimming with fresh leaves, and a selection of cheeses. The selection of sweets, meanwhile, is extensive. Tuck into traditional Nonya kueh such as red tortoise cakes made from rice flour and mung bean, better known as ang ku kueh, kueh talam or steamed pandan and coconut glutinous rice cake, and the rainbow-coloured lapis sagu. Classic local flavours get an update in the delectable kaya and milo tart, bandung (rose syrup and milk) jelly, and lychee cake. They are also gorgeously incorporated in the selection of ice creams available such as durian, coconut, jackfruit, yam and sweet corn, just to name a few. There is even a do-it-yourself ice kachang station where you get to create Singapore’s favourite local dessert.
